300+ Years Of Colonial History
Present-day Joppatowne was created by real estate developer Leon Panitz in the 1960s. Nearly three hundred years earlier, however it was the site of colonial Joppa Town - and the seat of Baltimore County from 1712 to 1768.
In colonial America they were three towns in the area of present-day Joppatowne, each established and abandoned in succession. Gunpowder Town, Foster's Neck, and Joppa Town. The first two were short-lived, but Joppa Town proved quite successful for some 50 years.
